I began working with animals at a very young age, long before I understood the word “training.” By seven, I was already showing and training horses, learning that success comes from consistency, feel, and trust not force. Horses quickly became my greatest teachers, shaping both my skills and character.

As a youth competitor, I earned national championships across multiple disciplines, including trail, English equitation, showmanship, and western pleasure. In 1987, I was honored with the Black Magic Trophy, recognizing years of dedication and partnership. When my own horse was injured, I continued training and showing others, which strengthened my adaptability and deepened my understanding of different temperaments.

My work with dogs mirrors the same philosophy I developed through years of working with horses: building deep trust through patience and positive reinforcement.I personally trained two therapy dogs, Belle and Mira, and volunteered with Therapy Dog International through Hospice. We regularly visited hospitals, nursing homes, police stations, and schools, including read to kids programs. I also performed public demonstrations that highlighted the tricks and skills I trained using kind, force free methods.Determined to provide the best care for dogs, I attended Paragon Pet Grooming School, where I learned to groom all breeds including cats with a strong focus on safe, humane handling, even with difficult or aggressive animals. I later worked as a groomer at PetSmart and became the lead groomer at Whistle Lake Pet Resort, where I enjoyed both the grooming and the daily connection with the dogs in my care.At the same time, I built a career in healthcare as an EEG technologist. For eight years, I worked in high-pressure hospital units including the PACU, NICU, MICU, ICU, ER, and surgical suites. My own intense battle with undiagnosed Lyme disease which left me bedridden for years deepened my empathy and taught me the true value of patience and perseverance.This path eventually led me into specialized scent work. I trained two gluten detection dogs and interned with Dawn Sheu, a pioneer in gluten detection dog training. Dawn developed the first gluten alert dog trained with both a clear “indication” and an “all clear” signal. Her science-based approach and over 30 years of experience in scent detection profoundly influenced my training style.Every chapter of my life has reinforced one central truth: training is not about control it is about trust, clear communication, and compassion.

My passion for dog training began at age seven when my parents brought home a severely abused horse. She lived in constant fear, panicked when tied, and trusted almost no one. Through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, I helped her feel safe again. That experience taught me a lifelong lesson: animals don’t need dominance they need to feel safe.In 4-H, I volunteered in a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities, which deepened my understanding of the powerful bond between animals and humans.As an adult, I continued rescuing and retraining horses, including Thoroughbreds from the racing industry. I also welcomed three Icelandic horses into my life. Gunnthor and Ragnar came from reputable homes in the United States, while Louie, the oldest, arrived terrified and shut down. With patience and dedicated work, all three overcame their challenges and became confident, cherished trail companions.Today, the same foundation of trust and safety guides my work as a service dog trainer specializing in gluten detection dog training.
