What You Will Learn!
Gluten Detection Dog Training
Our program is designed to guide you step-by-step through the process of developing a reliable detection dog while building a strong, confident partnership between you and your dog. Through structured coaching, video review, and guided practice, you will learn how to train, understand, and work effectively with your dog in real-world environments.
Step 1: Initial Inquiry & Consultation
If you are interested in participating in the program, the first step is to contact us by email to express your interest. After receiving your inquiry, we will schedule a free Zoom consultation. We train over zoom so we can train from anywhere, including Canada.
During this meeting we will:
-
Review the details of the training program
-
Discuss your goals and expectations
-
Answer any questions you may have
-
Determine whether the program is the right fit for you
This consultation ensures you have a clear understanding of the training process before getting started.
Step 2: Selecting the Right Dog
If you do not currently have a dog, we will guide you through the process of selecting a suitable puppy for detection work. Together we will locate a reputable breeder in your area and evaluate available litters for the traits and temperament needed for this type of work.
When a litter becomes available, we will work with the breeder to identify puppies that demonstrate strong potential for service and detection training.
If you already have a dog, we will evaluate your dog to determine whether they are a good candidate for the program.
In both cases, we will conduct scent testing to ensure the dog shows the natural interest and ability needed to work with the target odor they will be trained to detect.
Step 3: Beginning Training
If you are bringing home a puppy, you will first allow your puppy a few days to settle into their new home and adjust to their environment. Approximately four days after arrival, we will begin your guided training sessions through Zoom.
Training sessions are typically held one to two times per week and last approximately one hour.
During these sessions we will begin developing the foundation skills your dog will need, including:
-
Scent detection training
-
Foundational obedience
-
Proper socialization
-
Desensitization to everyday environments
Each session is designed to support both you and your dog as you develop your skills together. You will receive step-by-step guidance throughout the program so you always feel supported and confident during the training process.
Step 4: Public Access Training
Once your puppy is reliably potty trained, fully vaccinated, and has developed a strong foundation in basic obedience, we will begin introducing public access training.
This stage focuses on helping your dog learn to remain calm, focused, and confident while working in real-world environments.
Program Goal
Our goal is to help you develop a well-trained detection dog while building a trusting partnership that allows you to confidently navigate everyday life together.
By the end of the program, you and your dog will have developed the skills, communication, and teamwork necessary to work successfully as a detection team.
Program Overview
This training program is built around a structured, video-based learning approach designed to help you and your dog develop into a confident and reliable detection team. Throughout the program, you will record training sessions with your dog in real-life public environments. During our scheduled coaching sessions, we will review your videos together, evaluate your progress, and refine your training techniques. This method allows us to strengthen your teamwork, improve handling skills, and build your dog’s reliability in a wide variety of everyday situations.
A key part of the program focuses on teaching you how to read and understand canine body language. Learning to recognize early signs of stress or overstimulation allows you to support your dog effectively and prevent situations where they may become overwhelmed. Our training approach emphasizes positive, fear-free methods that promote trust, confidence, and a strong working partnership between handler and dog.
As your dog progresses and begins working accurately and confidently in different environments, you and your dog will complete both a scent detection evaluation and a public access test. These assessments confirm that your dog can perform their work reliably in real-world settings.
Upon successful completion of the program, your dog will receive a diploma recognizing their training, and you will leave with the knowledge, confidence, and independence that comes from working with a well-trained detection dog. Our goal is to help you build a trusted partnership that allows you to move through daily life with greater freedom, security, and peace of mind.
